What is the Schufa?

SCHUFA is a private German company specialized in a well-defined task: to collect data of clients and customers who deal with banks, loan firms or companies that offer installment selling in Germany, upon the approval of the customer of course. 

In return, when you apply to get a certain loan or you need to buy any specific commodity in installments, or to deal with telecommunication companies, the party you are dealing with can, upon your approval, have access to your private data registered with SCHUFA. This means knowing your financial record, and financial and credit status. Based on this, this party can decide if it can enter into or to reject the selling contract or loan.
